Christians In Action: Taking Missions and Outreach to the Next Level

Backpack Buddies

Would you like to help?

SUMC and Backpack Buddies – planting the seeds… making a difference in children’s lives.

God is Good…. All the time!   Thanks to all who help fill 650 Backpack Buddies bags in 2021!!!

And we did more in 2022!   Right now we still have our goal for 50 bags/month.

You might be wondering exactly what it takes to fill 50 Backpack Buddy bags?

Well, it’s probably a lot easier than you thought. The whole process will take 3-4 hours (shopping, filling, travel) - not much time for the difference you will be making in 50 children’s lives.

Cost per bag runs between $3.75 and $4.75 ($190-$240 total). The church will reimburse you for the cost.

Ideal teams are between 2-6 people.

Christians In action

mission Statement

The Christians in Action committee is called to love our neighbor and hear the cry of the needy.

To that end, we will:

  • Unite our church to serve

  • Provide resources for support for new forms of ministry

  • Organize specific actions in the community of Senoia and beyond that embody the teachings of Jesus Christ

  • Motivate others to participate in Christian work

WHAT THEY DO

Throughout the year Senoia UMC is involved in many outreach and mission opportunities.

2023 Christians in Action activities include:

  • Backpack Buddies - Every month volunteers pack at least 50 bags
  • Back to School Summer Splash - A family event for the entire community to start the school year off with fun water games and fellowship
  • Beginning of the School Year Breakfast/Lunch for Teachers at our local school
  • The I-58 Mission Support for the food pantry
  • Light Up Senoia parade during the Christmas season
  • Christmas Caroling
  • Christmas Shoe Box Ministry for children around the world
  • Stay tuned for other activities!

Who they are

Everyone in the church is considered a team member and is encouraged to participate!

There are meetings monthly, as needed, to plan and act.

How it works

Christians In Action seek to provide opportunities for our church to not only be hospitable in how we reach out and welcome new people to the church, but also how we go out into the community to serve others to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

They work hard to identify and support opportunities for our church to be involved in ministries in our conference, our country and around the world in the name of Christ. Some projects might include mission trips, collecting groceries, school supplies and other needed items for the I-58 Mission here in Senoia, working with UMCOR in Newnan, the Ukraine and others, and Backpack Buddies.
