Christianity’s Family Tree: What Other Christians Believe and Why

The weekly Bible/Book Study with Barb starts back on Wednesday evening, August 24. We meet at 7:00, either in the Youth Room at the rear of the sanctuary or via Zoom. This group meets each Wednesday evening and studies either a book of the Bible or another book about our faith, our beliefs, and other relatable topics.

We will begin this fall with the book by Adam Hamilton, Christianity’s Family Tree: What Other Christians Believe and Why. We’ll learn more about our own denomination, United Methodist, as well as Lutheranism, Catholicism, Baptists, Presbyterianism, and others. Adam has a way of writing that is easy to read and understand. This study is open to everyone in the church. Each week is stand-alone, so if you can only come for some of the weeks, that is fine. You’ll learn about that week’s denomination!

We’ll start off with a church that claims to be the oldest child: the Orthodox Church. Orthodox Christians believe they are the direct and continuous successors of the apostles and that of the Roman Catholic Church. Today, Eastern Orthodox Christianity makes up the second-largest body of Christians after Roman Catholics.

Come and join the group as we wind our way through these various groups of Christian believers. Books are now available. Call or text me, Barb at 419-680-2103, to get your copy or if you have any questions. I hope to see you on the 24th!

Being United Methodists

A new Adult Sunday School class will be forming in September. This class will meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 in the Conference Room upstairs/above the Fellowship Hall. This new class is open to every adult in the church. We are going to start off with a 6-week discussion of Being United Methodists. We will learn about our UM story, beliefs, and how we live and worship together, as well as questions you have about being a United Methodist. The first class will be on Sunday September 18. Watch for further updates in the coming weeks.

Upper Room Devotional

The Upper Room at SUMC small Connexion group meets each Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the JOY Room off the narthex at the front of the church. This is open to everyone in the church. All you really need is a copy of The Upper Room Devotional booklet, available in the narthex, and an interest in talking with other believers. We read through the devotion for Wednesday as a group and then the conversation moves along from there! It’s a fun and interesting time each week. Come and join in on the fun and fellowship. Call or text me, Barb at 419-680-2103, if you have any questions.
